Its been quite an active week and a lot of learnings. I was getting set up last week for the official start of the interviews. Suddenly I realized I left my battery recharger and adapter cord in a hotel room. And my battery was dead. I shoot with a Canon FS100 which I love. I have a back up camera but not as light and the quality isn’t as good. The Canon takes great footage and the sound quality is excellent. I would never have expected a pocket size camcorder to be so reliable.
I must have called 12 stores looking for an adapter or a recharger. Nothing. Until I called Calumet Photographic in Oakbrook. I spoke with John who explained they didn’t have it in stock but given my circumstances, I could come in and they would charge my battery. How is that for customer service? They charged my battery and I ordered some replacement parts. Awesome, definately my new place to go.
I was in Philly and Maryland this week for filming and for a Shriners appt. When I arranged the rental car through Thrifty, not only did I get an amazing price but they were really helpful When I landed in Philly, Mr. Robinson at the desk, helped me carry my luggage out and then upgraded me at no charge when he saw all my junk.
People at the airport were so helpful. Kind of renews my faith in humanity. There were strangers on the bus that helped me load all of our luggage and carry owen up; the people waiting in security that helped me through and pry my car seat out of the conveyor belt when it got stuck…Ooops. No one gave me snotty looks and there was always an offer to help.
We flew Southwest which has become my new favorite airlines. The price was the lowest around by several hundred dollars and flying out of Midway is so easy. From the ticket agent to the flight attendants, everyone helped play with Owen and set up his car seat and put away my numerous bags. Plus Owen loved that everyone was silly and singing. For his first flight, he did absolutely amazing. Now I am making Southwest Airlines the official transportation for the AMC Documentary.
Finally there was the stranger on the plane next to us, Mike. He let Owen play with his computer, we talked about kids and traveling and then he even mentioned his corporation would be interested in making a donation. And he offered to help get us off the plane. See what I mean? There are plenty of kind hearted people, you just have to be open to see it.
This whole experience continues to amaze me. The way opportunities have presented themselves. Kind of crazy in a good way though, so many positive things to post. And who doesn’t love to have some good news…especially now.
