Diving into Grant Writing and Corporate Giving for Documentaries

by amcdocumentary on January 21, 2009

I took the day off today and spent most of it at the local community college. They have a philantrophy program at the library and an expert on hand.

Not only was I able to access multiple databases and research various grants and corporate donations, but I pulled past recipients and their awards. I never knew this resource was available. Having an expert on hand to call and help navigate will be extremely helpful. I could have used this information when I was in college.

What amazed me was that grants exist to help parents with special needs kids. Some is for educational costs and others are for on-going care, both medical and day-to-day needs. It is a shame that this information is available by subscription only. Various memberships can add up quickly. Sure you can Google and leverage the web, but in 4 hours I pulled information on more than 50 resources. This includes the AMCSI as well as the documentary, but what a time saver.

Research has come a long way since the days of the card catalog and microfiche. And note, I was scolded by a librarian when I mentioned I hadn’t been in a library since card catalogs were still being used. Seriously, with the Internet, I used to think why would anyway go to a library?

Shame on me. I was missing out on a lot of resources. I also love being surrounded by books. There is a sense of comfort and security in the library. When was your last trip to the library?
