First There Was Thelma and Louise, Now Its Me and the Tree Boys

by amcdocumentary on March 23, 2009

Friday will mark the start of a new adventure with me and the boys. We are driving from Chicago to Columbus, OH then to Philly, PA and possibly Delaware. My goal is to film 15 interviews for the documentary while keeping the “tree boys” in line. We’ll see but the odds right now are not in my favor. They are very excited to have 9 whole days with just mom.

I am moved every day by the emails I am getting regarding the documentary. Some have stumbled upon the blog others learned of the project from a friend. I have heard from people as far away as Australia and Colombia and as close as Iowa. Amazing stories of surgeries, overcoming obstacles in the school system and workplace and just people living “normal” lives…if there is such a thing as “normal.”

This trip marks a milestone for me as well. Working on this project has given me the confidence to pursue other dreams in photography (Perfectly Imperfect, A Black and White Photo Exhibit for Shriners)and writing several books. I am fortunate that my background in creative allows me to branch out in some many areas. I think it also makes a tremendous difference when you are passionate about your work. The difference that will come through is that I am not just filming families, I am living the life right alongside them. I can bring my experiences to help tell their stories that much better.

I say it over and over again but it’s true. I am forever grateful that I received the gift of Owen, my son. A special needs child to some, but to us, he is so much more.

What are you bringing your passion to? What would you do if you had no limitations?
